Membership Spotlight May 2019- Julie Bruns!

What made you decide to try CrossFit?

My daughter Karlie was going to ELC and she was coming home talking about the work outs and I could see she was getting stronger and stronger everyday.  I wanted that! I was working out on my own but not getting the progress she was getting. I started going to rowing once a week then twice a week. Then I stay for the next class and kept trying other classes and pretty soon I was going everyday.  I’m hooked!

 

What is your favorite part about Empowered Living Company?

Definitely the coaches and the people!  They are so helpful and willing to give advice on anything from the workout, a lift and nutrition.  When I hurt my back this last fall I was overwhelmed with how many people texted me, brought me food and were waiting for me to come back to the gym.  It was along recovery but the encouragement was awesome!

 

What’s your favorite movement, lift or workout?

I love anything with a barbell!  Squats, deadlift, cleans, even thrusters

 

What’s one milestone you’re most proud of so far?

Friday Night Lights for sure!  I actually wasn’t even going to do it but I finally signed up a few days before.  I’ll admit I didn’t go into with the best attitude but I finished with a new one! I had no idea I could push myself like that and I’m so glad I signed up.

 

What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since starting?

Being a better me!  I’m stronger physically, emotionally and mentally.  I’m making better food choices for myself and my family.   I feel good and that makes so many aspects of my life better!    

 

What is your next goal you plan to crush?

I really would like to get an overhead squat or at least one that looks decent and of course a pull up!

 

 What advice would you give someone walking through the Empowered Living Company door for the first time?

Don’t be nervous!  It’s a great environment with such positive people and energy.  I promise it’s worth it!
