Membership Spotlight May 2018- Stephanie Warzecha!

What made you decide to try CrossFit?

I needed a lifestyle change. I was having some heart issues that really scared me. So I decided that I would do everything in my power to heal myself naturally before signing up for a bunch of testing and meds that I didn’t want. I began healing by changing the food I ate but I knew that wasn’t enough. I had been hearing about this new gym for a while and I was very curious.  I watched people like Heidi Cullen change their lives with CrossFit and was inspired by it. One day Lys said let’s do it, so I did!

What made you decide to try Yoga?

Yoga and CrossFit are like peas and carrots. You can have one without the other but they are better together.  I tried Yoga because I wanted to do what was best for my body. Yoga helps with muscle recovery, protection from injury and flexibility. I was a little nervous but I love trying new things and I knew it would help a lot with CrossFit so I gave it a shot.

What is your favorite part about Empowered Living Company?

Everyone says this but the best part is THE PEOPLE! Having a place where people are encouraged to be their best selves while simultaneously being accepted right where they are at is a pretty special thing!

What’s your favorite movement, lift or workout?

The BEAR COMPLEX is my favorite! It’s made up of Power Cleans, Front Squats, Push Press and Back Squats! It’s so fun!

What is your favorite yoga pose or class?

I looove the Ashtanga series that Cate teaches and the Power Yoga classes that Jeanne teaches. Both classes combine more vigorous physical movements with synchronized breathing and mental self-awareness. As Cate says “Yoga is Life!”

What’s one milestone you’re most proud of so far?I started this journey because of my heart and I am happy to share that physically and emotionally there has been so much improvement!  Praise God!

What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since starting?

I never expected this journey to change my self-image and my definition of beauty. After having kids I just accepted that I would never really be satisfied with how I look. I believed that to be my best self I need to be thin. I believed the hype the world tries to tell us that being thin is beautiful. Wow! I am soo grateful I don’t buy into this anymore. Like Lauren puts it, “Strong is Sexy!”  I am comfortable being me now and instead of hiding myself, I celebrate the body God has given me and I love working to make it better.

What is your next goal you plan to crush?

Just to keep going. To keep taking it one day at a time and doing my best with each day.

What advice would you give someone walking through the Empowered Living Company door for the first time?

If you want to try CrossFit begin with CrossFit Move. It’s a great place to start if your nervous. If you want to try Yoga a good class to come to is Hatha. It is a gentle, slow paced class with lots of props and modifications.

The hardest part is walking through the door. Once you are in, you will be greeted with caring people who will be excited you are there!
