What made you decide to try CrossFit?

I had been doing distance running for several years but wanted to add strength training back in after not doing much after college.  A friend had mentioned Crossfit seven years ago and I fell in love with it.  I did the workouts by myself for years but never had as much fun or got the results that I have with ELC.  It was my wife, Michelle, who told me I should go to ELC.

What is your favorite part about Empowered Living Company?

The people!  Seriously, to get up at 5:00 AM every morning?  Either you better be getting great results or enjoy what you are doing and who you’re doing it with.  I’m getting both.  It has also become something for the whole family, my kids love working out here and it is something that Michelle and I do together, even though she wasn’t real thrilled with working out together at first.  The coaches are great, knowledgeable and supportive.

What’s your favorite movement, lift or workout?

Kipping pullups changed everything for me so workouts like Fran, Cindy and Barbara are my favorite workouts (even though I have different names for them while doing the workout).

What’s one milestone you’re most proud of so far?

Keeping a schedule of 4-5 workouts per week for over a year.

What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since starting?

I didn’t think I would like working out as a group or with other people.  Fortunately the 5:30 crew rocks!  Dilly! Dilly!

What is your next goal you plan to crush?

A muscle-up is that elusive unicorn that seems to be out of reach but is always a goal.  My wife said I was past my prime so that is motivation to get it done.  I really just want to keep progressing to be able to do workouts as prescribed.

What advice would you give someone walking through the Empowered Living Company door for the first time?

If you’re new to working out, don’t be intimidated and don’t give up.  If you’re already in shape, leave your ego at the door and have fun.  It may not be for everyone but it is for everyone.
