What made you decide to try CrossFit?
I have lifted weights since college, but over the last couple of years, I had become inconsistent in my workouts. My workouts were not a priority, and were getting done only if I felt like it. I needed to change what I was doing.
What is your favorite part about Empowered Living Company?
The people. The coaches are awesome, and help you every step of the way. Having everyone else there motivates me to push on even if I don’t feel like it. Having Tom (Bovee) and the rest of the morning crew keeps me accountable to stay consistent. And the 5:30 a.m. group gives a positive kickoff to every day.
What’s your favorite movement, lift or workout?
Deadlift. There’s just something about picking up a really heavy weight.
What’s one milestone you’re most proud of so far?
Sometimes, the milestones are little things. I hadn’t done much running since I was in my early 20’s, so it’s been a few years :). While it’s still not easy, running isn’t something I dread anymore.
What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since starting?
For me, I think what has been most beneficial, is to feel better as I become older, rather than more decrepit.
What is your next goal you plan to crush?
Team Festivus is coming up, and Tom talked me into a mud run next summer. And I’m still working toward that elusive strict pull up. Should be fun.
What advice would you give someone walking through the Empowered Living Company door for the first time?
I’d say just get started. You’ll have a whole family of teammates cheering you on, and helping you celebrate your accomplishments.
