What made you decide to try CrossFit?
About a year ago I really started to focus on personal growth and self-care. Since I sit at a desk 8-10 hours a day I realized I needed more physical activity in my day. I decided to try ELC because I knew the community and class format would help keep accountable so I didn’t quit a few weeks in.
What is your favorite part about Empowered Living Company?
Everyone says it but you don’t fully understand until you join. The gym really is a community, the coaches and members are authentic and encouraging. On top of that, CrossFit requires a lot of mental and physical strength. I love pushing my limits every day and seeing the progress week to week and month to month.
What’s your favorite movement, lift or workout?
I have to go with Pull-ups or Handstand Push-ups. One of my first classes we had to do HSPU’s and I couldn’t do them. The idea of having something I couldn’t do pushed me to work on them, and I think that makes them special to me.
What’s one milestone you’re most proud of so far?
There were 3 benchmarks I put on my list when I started at the gym. Muscle-ups, handstandwalks, and double-unders. Just a few weeks ago I got my first Muscle-up and that was huge milestone for me. I am slowly but surely working on the other two.
What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since starting?
I am in better mental and physical shape than I have ever been in my life. Going to the gym 5 days a week whether I want to or not has built a lot of mental strength. I think the most unexpected benefit is the growth in humility and empathy. There is no place in the gym for a big ego and there is always someone who is better than you in one movement or skill. Its been really good for me to leave my pride at the door and just enjoy pushing my limits alongside my gym family.
What is your next goal you plan to crush?

I am really excited for the Granite Games Throwdown in January. Before competition I need to be able to do double unders so that is my #1 skill focus for the next few months.
What advice would you give someone walking through the Empowered Living Company door for the first time?

Just like anything else in life if you want to do it you have to start. When you show up to your first class there will be people of all skill levels. No one is judging you, and
everyone is rooting for you. As long as you are hungry and humble you will thrive at ELC!
